In 2010, the city of Essen and the whole of Ruhr Metropolis region, Germany have been designated to become a European Capital of Culture.
Alongside the cities of Istanbul, Turkey and Pécs (the fifth largest city of Hungary) there will be 3 cities of european culture next year..
