Geeky time :-) Yandex (Яндекс) is the biggest search engine in Russia. For the past few months have been launching all sorts of interesting stuff.
“Photographs on maps is a service that has been created thanks to our users,” says Yandex’s  Maria Orlova, Project Manager of Yandex.Maps photo layer.

“People are traveling, taking pictures and placing them on maps. We hope with their help we can make a really interesting and useful service that can show the beauty of the world we live in.”

Yandex.Maps has added a new photo layer. Now users of the service can see photos from unusual locations, images of interesting buildings, cityscapes and landscapes from all over the world displayed on the map. Yandex.Maps gives its users an opportunity to travel to different cities and countries without leaving their home – see Venice, the Brooklyn Bridge or the Egyptian pyramids. All photos on Yandex.Maps are made by the users of the Yandex.Fotki service.
